Over the past weekend Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) said…

We should not have a government program that determines if you’re going to pull the plug on grandma.

Of course there is no provision in any bill before either house of Congress to create a “government program that determines if you’re going to pull the plug on grandma.” To the extent that Senator Grassley is trying to promulgate that idea, he is a liar. This raises two questions in my mind.

First, why doesn’t someone, anyone, just come out and speak the simple truth that Republicans are liars? Something like, “Sarah Palin said that health care reform is going to create death panels who will decide whether or not to euthanize children with Downs Syndrome. She is lying. She is a liar. You can’t believe a word the woman says.”

Second, why in the hell are the democrats in the Senate negotiating with Chuck Grassley on health care?  The man knows that the end of life care provisions have nothing to do with “pulling the plug on grandma,” or at least he should since he voted for the exact same provision in 2003. It would be interesting to hear someone argue that Senator Grassley’s mendacious claims are what you would expect from a peson negotiating in good faith.
